With an education, you have everything you need to rise above all the noise and fulfill every last one of your dreams.”

Teaching Goal
My goal as an educator is to provide students tools and strategies that will help them succeed both in and out of school. This not only applies to academics and concepts, but building confidence and independence as well. I believe that as a teacher it is important to continue to learn as well. As a teacher I want to improve student learning by using the skills in the classroom with real world problems. By incorporating project based learning into the classroom they will become better prepared for the challenges they may encounter in the real world.

Education
Masters of Arts in Educational Technology:
Michigan State’s Masters of Arts in Educational Technology doesn’t just show you how to use technology in the classroom, but it empowers you to think differently than you were before in regards to technology. The skills and knowledge I have gained throughout this program are not ones that I could have done on my own. I am now more equipped to teach my students in my classroom because of it and have become apart of our school’s technology team to help other teachers do the same in their classroom.
Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education
I went to Michigan State for my Bachelors degree as well as my Masters. During my time at Michigan State I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Social Studies. I am certified in K-5 education as well as 6-8 Social Studies in the state of Michigan. I also was apart of the Urban Educators Cohort Program during my time at Michigan State. This better prepared me to teach a wide range of students and allowed me to help teach summer school for two summers during my undergraduate time.
Professional Experience
Teaching
I have been working at Burton Elementary for 4 years. During this time I have taught a 4/5 split, 5th grade and recently teaching a 5th grade inclusion classroom. Most of our students speak two languages and are English Language Learners. All of the staff, students and families apart of this community are what makes this school so special. Being able to learn and teach alongside these students has been a pleasure.
Apple Distinguished School
In 2016 Burton Elementary received a grant through Apple that allowed each student to receive an Ipad to enhance their learning. Thanks to the hard work of both students and teachers in 2019 we were honored to become an Apple Distinguished schools.

Strength Areas
I believe that I have strengths both inside and outside of the classroom. One of the abilities that I have is to teach students how to use technology not as a replacement tool but to enhance their knowledge. By integrating tech tools into their learning it gives all students ample opportunities to show their learning, meaning more students are able to succeed. I also believe it’s important to see a student as a whole, not just test scores on a piece of paper. Because of this I make strong relationships with my students in order to help support their learning. It is important that they see I am their to help them in their academic journey.
Outside of the classroom I think it is important to continue pushing myself as a learner through professional development. Some of which include: an Apple conference to continue to learn how to integrate tech into the classroom. I have also attended a MABE ( Multistate Association for Bilingual Education) to continue to learn how to best teach my students, most of whom are primarily English Language Learners. I had the privilege of attending ISTE ( International Society for Technology in Education) to learn more about technology platforms. While these are just a few of the opportunities I’ve had, the knowledge I’ve gained has been irreplaceable.
